Dr Helen Gregory

Helen is a full-time Psychology Lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire.  She has worked for over twelve years in various teaching positions, including teaching psychology undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Bath, sociology undergraduates at the University of Exeter, psychology undergraduates at the University of the West of England and students from a range of disciplines through the Open University.  In 2009 Helen received her PhD (completed with no revisions) from the Department of Sociology at the University of Exeter, England.  Her research explores the ways in which poetry slam participants in England and the U.S. understand their selves, others and their worlds in the context of slam and performance poetry.  This draws on the theories of social constructionism, interactionism, discourse analysis, and the work of Pierre Bourdieu and Antonio Gramsci, taking a broad, interdisciplinary approach which is best described as social scientific.  In her spare time, Helen writes and performs poetry, and runs the Poetry&Words stage at Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts.
